Software Eng Lead

As the front facing technical lead for the engineering team at Optum Lab, your role involves collaborating with other engineering teams to solve business problems and drive innovation in the health care industry. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, testing, deploying, and maintaining innovative software solutions to enhance service performance, durability, cost efficiency, and security. Your focus will be on ensuring high-quality deliverables by following software engineering best practices and writing high-quality distributed system software.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain innovative software solutions
• Collaborate with other engineering teams to solve business problems
• Assist with recruiting and hiring
• Decompose complex problems into simple solutions
• Perform code reviews and mentor junior engineers
• Influence the technical direction for the team
• Build the team into an engineering center of excellence

Qualifications Required:

• BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering or related field or equivalent experience
• Industry experience as a Software Engineer or Software Developer
• Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java or Python
• Experience contributing to architecture and design of new and current systems
• Hands-on experience in various technologies from front-end user interfaces to back-end systems
• Strong computer science and development fundamentals
• Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters in computer science or equivalent professional experience
• Experience leading in building complex software systems
• Experience with distributed computing and enterprise-wide systems
• Strong communication skills for requirements gathering and technical discussions
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior software engineers
