Job Description
You will be joining VML as a Cloud & Platform DBA/Database Reliability Engineer to operate, optimize, and secure both managed and selfmanaged databases that power hightraffic ecommerce sites. Your main focus will be on ensuring high availability, performance, security/compliance, and cost efficiency, especially during peak events.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Operate managed databases (cloud) including AWS RDS/Aurora (MySQL/PostgreSQL), Google Cloud SQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB, DB2, Oracle. This involves tasks such as indexing, query plan analysis, schema design, connection pool tuning, and concurrency tuning.
- Build and support selfmanaged databases (hosted/onprem/VMs) like Oracle 19c, IBM DB2 LUW 9.511.5, MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB. Responsibilities include installation, patching, upgrades, tuning, storage layout, and backup/restore.

- Focus on security, compliance, and governance by managing IAM least privilege, secrets management, audit logging, and ensuring adherence to PCIDSS and GDPR controls.
- Work on cost and capacity stewardship by rightsizing instances/storage/IOPS, capacity forecasting, and scaling plans. This involves both cloud and selfmanaged database environments.
- Collaborate on architecture decisions, including schema evolution, caching strategies, and patterns for microservices and event-driven systems.
- Participate in operations and ways of working by partnering with development, support, and architecture teams, maintaining clear documentation, and being involved in incident response and migrations between selfmanaged and managed services.
**Qualifications Required:**
- Handson production experience with managed relational databases in AWS or GCP (RDS/Aurora or Cloud SQL) using MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Experience administering at least one selfmanaged enterprise RDBMS in Linux/Unix environments (Oracle or IBM DB2 LUW) or the ability to ramp up quickly.
- Strong performance tuning skills, HA/DR expertise, automation mindset, and security/compliance fundamentals.
- Clear communication, collaboration skills, and the ability to coach teams and document best practices.
If you have experience with advanced database technologies, analytics platforms, or have exposure to specific tools and platforms mentioned in the job description, it would be considered a plus.
