Job Description
As a Staff Data Engineer at Walmart Global Tech, you will be a key member of the Data and Customer Analytics (DCA) team, responsible for various analytics features and initiatives in the Merchandising data domain. Your role will involve designing, implementing, and improving crucial features to drive actionable insights in real-time.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- **Data Transformation and Integration:** Extract data from identified databases, create data pipelines, and transform data using appropriate techniques. Develop knowledge of current analytics trends.
- **Data Source Identification:** Support understanding of priority requirements and service level agreements. Identify suitable data sources and perform initial data quality checks.
- **Data Modeling:** Analyze complex data elements, systems, and dependencies to contribute to conceptual, physical, and logical data models. Develop efficient data flows and propose solutions for integration challenges.
- **Code Development and Testing:** Write code to develop solutions, create test cases, and deploy software to production servers. Contribute to code documentation and maintain progress updates.
- **Applied Business Acumen:** Provide recommendations to solve complex business issues, develop business cases, and translate requirements into projects aligned with the overall business strategy.
- **Data Governance:** Establish and document data governance projects, implement data governance practices, and educate stakeholders on data governance processes.
- **Other Responsibilities:** Participate in designing data application architecture, create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture, develop data modeling processes, and collaborate with business units and engineering teams.
**Qualifications Required:**
- Well versed with Big Data Technologies, Spark, Cloud, Streaming, and backend technologies like Spring boot, React, Node.js.
- Strong coding skills in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Scala, Python) and experience in cloud computing platforms.
- Knowledge of data modeling, migration protocols, and experience in data warehousing and BI.
- Experience with integration tools like Automic, Airflow, designing large-scale distributed systems, and building scalable Big Data solutions.
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases like Druid, Cosmos DB, and RDBMS like MySQL, Postgres.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or enterprise integration roles.
- Proficiency in streaming systems, cloud data platforms, and understanding of Retail Business and Merchandising eCommerce domain.
- Strong communication, analytical, and stakeholder influence skills, with experience in data product development and system design.
