Job Description
As a Senior XR Device Calibration and Automation Engineer at Qualcomm XR Research, you will play a crucial role in developing cutting-edge XR technologies for AR/VR/MR user experiences. Your primary focus will be on sensor calibration and automation to ensure the smooth execution of calibration and compliance activities. Here is a breakdown of your responsibilities:
- Own and execute complete XR sensor calibration workflows, including intrinsic and extrinsic calibration of cameras, IMUs, and related sensors.
- Design, automate, and maintain calibration pipelines to ensure scalability, accuracy, repeatability, and long-term robustness.
- Diagnose, debug, and resolve calibration and validation failures across hardware and software interfaces.
- Drive certification and compliance readiness by identifying gaps during validation cycles and ensuring timely closure.
- Provide technical leadership, deep root-cause analysis, and actionable guidance to unblock dependent teams.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
- Proven experience in sensor calibration (camera, IMU, etc.) for SLAM, XR, or robotics systems.
- Strong expertise in automation and tooling using scripting or programming languages such as Python, C/C++, or similar.
- Excellent debugging and root-cause analysis skills across complex hardware-software systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective cross-team collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in highly specialized technical domains with minimal oversight.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Hands-on experience with XR, AR, or VR device calibration.
- Familiarity with robotic automation, including robotic arms and control infrastructure.
- Experience with Qualcomm platforms, camera systems, and sensors (IMU, depth, tracking).
- Understanding of SLAM based systems and multi-sensor fusion techniques.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
- Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 1+ year of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
- PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
- 2+ years of academic or work experience with Programming Languages such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.
