Job Description
As a GSS Special Projects Engineer at Emerson, you will be responsible for facilitating the EEECs interests and activities for special projects under GSS HUB. Your role will involve engaging with the proposals team within special projects to support proposals design, prototype new integrated solutions, and deliver special projects that address customer needs with optimal software placement and new solutions. This position requires a hands-on engineer with a chemical engineering background to design, optimize, and troubleshoot process units using simulation, control, and data analytics to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability in operations.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Facilitate EEECs interests and activities for special projects
- Engage with the proposals team to support proposals design and prototype new integrated solutions
- Design, optimize, and troubleshoot process units using simulation, control, and data analytics
- Ensure high availability, reliability, and seamless data flow on Aspen IP.21 and AspenTech inmation platforms
- Monitor system health, performance, connectivity, historization, and namespace consistency
- Configure and manage data acquisition from DCS, PLC, SCADA, and ERP systems
- Set up and manage data connectors and interfaces such as OPC UA/DA, MQTT, REST APIs, Cim IO, and other industrial protocols
- Oversee historian database management including sizing, backups, archival policies, and restoration procedures
- Create and manage tags, units, queries, and custom logic in Aspen IP.21
- Develop scripts or automation using Lua, SQL, or Python to support data transformation, contextualization, and validation
- Monitor historian data quality, system loads, and connector reliability
- Analyze historical and real-time data using Aspen Process Explorer, Aspen SQLplus, and inmation visualization tools
- Integrate historian data with business analytics platforms using SQL, inmation Report Engine, or external BI tools
- Provide L1/L2 support for Aspen IP and troubleshoot data issues, access rights, connector failures, and namespace/configuration problems
- Ensure adherence to change control, backup policies, and documentation standards
- Work closely with the Proposal lead and Sales to understand customer requirements and prepare proposals accordingly
- Implement EEEC IMS processes/documentation throughout the project
- Adhere to World Area quality requirements and customers' regulatory guidelines
**Qualifications Required:**
- 4 years of hands-on experience implementing, supporting, or administering Aspen IP
- 2 years of experience working with AspenTech inmation (Industrial DataOps / Unified Namespace platform)
- Good understanding of Unified Namespace (UNS) principles, industrial data contextualization, and real-time data orchestration
- Strong SQL skills: PL/SQL, MS SQL, SSRS
- Experience with Lua scripting, Python, or equivalent automation experience
- Bachelor's or master's degree in instrument electronics, software, chemical engineering, or related discipline
- Experience with industrial historians or OT data platforms and visualization tools
- Ability to work with multi-functional teams located remotely
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience using data tools for analysis and reporting
