Job Description
A hydraulic engineer designs, develops and maintains water systems, hydraulic structures, and equipment for various applications. They specialize in the design of hydraulic systems, including water distribution systems, water treatment plants, and hydraulic machinery. A hydraulic engineer may also work on flood control projects, river and coastal engineering, and irrigation systems. They use advanced mathematical modeling and analysis techniques to determine the best and most efficient design for water-based systems.
A Hydraulic Engineer is responsible for designing, constructing, and maintaining a variety of hydraulic systems. They work closely with project managers and other engineers to ensure that hydraulic systems are properly installed and functioning correctly. A Hydraulic Engineer must have a strong knowledge of fluid dynamics and mechanics, as well as a thorough understanding of industry codes and regulations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design hydraulic systems using computer-aided design (CAD) software
- Coordinate with project managers and other engineers to ensure that hydraulic systems are properly integrated into larger projects
- Conduct hydraulic system simulations and analyze data to ensure that systems meet performance requirements
- Perform tests on hydraulic systems to ensure that they meet industry regulations and are functioning correctly
- Develop maintenance schedules and oversee routine inspections of hydraulic systems
