A BDS doctor (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) working in the dermatology fieldoften referred to as an Aesthetic Consultant, Cosmetologist, or Clinical Assistant in Dermatology focuses on non-surgical, aesthetic, and skin-related, rather than oral, procedures. Due to their extensive training in facial anatomy and precision injections, BDS doctors are often employed in cosmetic clinics to perform procedures like fillers, Botox, and laser treatments.
Job Summary The Aesthetic Consultant (BDS) is responsible for providing consultation, skin analysis, and non-surgical skin and hair treatments to patients. They work under the supervision of a senior dermatologist or independently in a skin clinic, delivering aesthetic services to improve skin, hair, and nail health Key Responsibilities & Duties- Patient Consultation & Diagnosis: Conduct thorough skin and hair examinations, take patient medical history, and analyze skin conditions to provide appropriate recommendations.
- Cosmetic Procedures: Perform or assist with non-surgical aesthetic treatments, including:
- Injectables: Dermal fillers (especially in the perioral area), botulinum toxin (Botox) for wrinkles.
- Skin Rejuvenation: Chemical peels, micro-needling, and microdermabrasion.
- Hair & Facial Treatments: Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, lasers, facial treatments.
- Laser Therapy: Operate laser machines for hair removal, scar reduction, and acne treatment.
- Treatment Planning & Education: Develop personalized, long-term skincare routines and educate patients on pre- and post-treatment care.
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate, detailed records of patient consultations and treatment progress. Adhere to clinic protocols, safety guidelines, and infection control procedures.
- Inventory & Staff Management: Manage basic clinic inventory, such as medication, products, and equipment, and guide technical staff (nurses/assistants).
- Education: A Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree is mandatory.
- Certification: A, PG diploma or certification in cosmetology, medical aesthetics, or dermatology is typically required.
- Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of facial anatomy, facial muscles, and blood vessels. Experience with injectables is highly sought after.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication skills (especially in English) for client counseling and rapport building.
- Experience: Generally 03 years of clinical experience in a cosmetology or dermatology clinic is preferred
