Job Description

As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) at Morningstar, you will play a crucial role in the engineering team by ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of software systems. Your responsibilities will include: - Designing, developing, and maintaining automated test frameworks and test suites for backend services, APIs, and front-end applications. - Performing white-box testing by writing and reviewing code to validate internal logic and integration points. - Collaborating with developers and product teams to define test strategies, acceptance criteria, and quality gates. - Integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to ensure continuous validation of code changes. - Developing and executing API tests using tools such as JUnit, Postman, REST-assured, or similar. - Identifying, documenting, and tracking bugs and issues, and working with engineering teams to resolve them efficiently. - Advocating for engineering excellence and driving adoption of best practices in testing and quality assurance. - Continuously evaluating and improving test coverage, tooling, and processes to enhance team productivity and product quality. - Taking ownership of the automated QA process, including API tests, e2e tests, smoke tests, integration tests, automation of regression testing, automated generation of test data, gathering and analyzing test reports, and identifying opportunities for automation. Qualifications required for this role include: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. - 5+ years of experience in software testing and automation. - Strong programming skills in Java, Python, or similar languages. - Hands-on experience with JUnit, API testing (REST, OpenAPI, GRPC), and tools like Swagger, Postman, or curl. - Practical experience with SQL. - Ability to find bottlenecks and thresholds in existing code with the help of automation tools. - Strong aptitude for learning new technologies. - Familiarity with test automation tools such as Selenium, Cypress, TestNG, or similar. - Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI. - Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and distributed systems. - Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and agile development methodologies. - Excellent analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills. - Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
