Senior Backend Engineer (PHP/Yii2) - Team Lead (Hands-on)

Role Overview: As a Senior Backend Engineer (PHP/Yii2) and Team Lead at Samarth eGov, your primary mission is to ensure the technical integrity, performance, and scalability of the Education ERP platform. You will be responsible for driving architectural standards, cross-module integrations, and end-to-end technical delivery excellence aligned with institutional and business priorities. This role will require hands-on coding responsibilities, with an expectation of leading a team of 36 engineers. Key Responsibilities: - Own technical delivery of assigned ERP modules - Lead day-to-day development activities - Review code for quality, security, and performance - Translate business requirements into solutions - Ensure modularity, scalability, and maintainability - Lead cross-functional technical teams across modules - Manage ERP release/deployment pipelines and environments - Drive performance, scalability, and SLA adherence - Ensure security and compliance across modules - Coordinate internal and external integrations - Review designs and enforce architectural standards - Mentor and develop technical staff - Manage technical debt and roadmap priorities - Support major releases and complex production issues Qualifications Required: - Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science/Engineering - 46 years of experience in backend development, preferably in SaaS, ERP, or large-scale web applications - At least 1 year of experience owning modules or leading small teams (36 engineers) - Strong hands-on experience with PHP (Yii2 preferred), MySQL/PostgreSQL, and REST API development - Solid understanding of MVC architecture and backend system design fundamentals - Experience with caching mechanisms (Redis, query caching, or application-level caching) - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, and Linux-based environments - Exposure to performance optimization and handling moderate scale systems - Basic understanding of cloud environments (AWS or similar) is a plus - Experience working in multi-tenant systems or ERP/education domain is an advantage - Comfortable working in a high-velocity development and deployment environment Additional Company Details: Samarth eGov is an initiative under Project Samarth, sponsored by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and implemented by Delhi University.
