Job Description
As the Head of Visual Merchandising at the mentioned company, you will have a crucial role in defining and enhancing the store experience charter for various grocery formats and brands. Your responsibilities will span from driving commercial VM strategies to ensuring consistent and differentiated design systems across different types of stores. You will be required to oversee the design execution for New Store Openings (NSO) and effectively roll out campaigns nationally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and evolve VM strategy and guidelines for each brand, in alignment with distinct Customer Value Propositions (CVPs).
- Own store zoning, planogram principles, sightlines, adjacencies, and traffic flow to optimize conversion rates and basket value.
- Drive seasonal, festive, and campaign-based VM storytelling across different store elements.
- Ensure excellence in execution across various categories such as fresh, FMCG, staples, private labels, and impulse products.
- Lead end-to-end VM & experience readiness for NSOs, from conceptualization to launch.
- Collaborate with projects, architects, and store planning teams on spatial layouts and customer journey design.
- Supervise fixtures, props, graphics, signage, in-store communication, and navigation systems.
- Develop repeatable NSO playbooks for consistent quality across different cities and store formats.
- Demonstrate a strong command over store layouts, fixture design, materials, lighting basics, color theory, and typography.
- Utilize data analysis to refine VM decisions and optimize costs without compromising brand experience.
- Lead, mentor, and scale central and regional VM teams.
- Foster cross-functional alignment with various departments and establish audit frameworks and training modules.
Leadership & Behavioral Expectations:
- Strategic thinker comfortable with defining vision and hands-on store management.
- Strong influencer across multiple brands and formats.
- Aesthetic sensitivity combined with commercial acumen.
- Ability to manage scale, speed, and ambiguity in a high-growth retail environment.
- Inspire teams, vendors, and partners through clarity, high standards, and creative confidence.
Education required for this role is an MBA in Marketing or a relevant Design Degree, and the candidate should have a minimum of 18 years of experience, with at least 15 years in Visual Merchandising. The job location is Ghansoli Navi Mumbai, with the option of working from the office.
