Role Overview:
At AQR India, as a Software Engineer in Portfolio Implementation, you will play a crucial role in designing, building, and extending systems that are fundamental to AQR's investment process. You will collaborate with researchers and portfolio managers to create proprietary tools that support quantitative strategy research and systematic investing at scale. Your work will involve participating in architectural design discussions, developing cloud-based microservices, and delivering bespoke technology solutions tailored to specific asset classes and evolving research needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing and building Portfolio Implementation platforms that consume research outputs, perform constrained optimizations, and generate orders
- Developing cloud-based microservices engineered for reliable and efficient operation at scale
- Participating in architectural design discussions for high-performance, high-volume, highly available systems
- Creating bespoke technology solutions for specific asset classes and evolving research requirements
- Collaborating with a global team of researchers, portfolio managers, and engineers for successful product delivery
Qualifications Required:
- Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
- 3+ years of professional programming experience with strong proficiency in Java
- Experience with Python is advantageous, particularly for research integration and tooling
- Strong software design skills translating design concepts into maintainable code
- Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Effective communication skills
- Interest in financial markets and the investment process
- Experience with microservice-based architectures, scalable distributed systems, and technologies such as Java, Elasticsearch, Redis, RabbitMQ / AMQ, and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server)
- Strong engineering best practices including code quality, peer code reviews, automated testing, and test coverage
- Experience operating, tuning, and profiling high-performance systems in production environments
- Familiarity with observability and monitoring platforms such as New Relic is advantageous
