Job Description
As a Nurse in the OT department, your role involves the following key responsibilities:
- Responsible for the OT routine, equipment, and patients.
- Review the doctors' notes and the drug chart and act as required.
- Prepare nursing care plans and render effective bedside nursing care.
- Ensure medication safety and patient safety protocols are practiced.
- Manpower deployment: prepare duty roster; assign nursing and anesthesia technicians as per requirements.
- Ensure efficient staffing, material, and equipment availability.
- Ensure nurses are competent and can handle tasks assigned to them.
- OT Scheduling: plan the following day; check the booking register a day before surgery, note and action special requirements, coordinate with the surgeon & anesthetist; plan manpower, equipment, and ensure OT is fully prepared for the specific surgery.
- Responsible for ensuring additional requirements of resources, blood procurement, equipment are made available.
- Check to ensure medications, consumables, instruments, and equipment are available for the surgery.
- Ensure all equipment is fully functional; conduct random checks of surgical and laparoscopic instruments ensuring they are functional.
- Competently handle all equipment used in patient care; ensure the team is competent in usage; ensure equipment is serviceable and readily available.
- Ensure documentation for all completed surgeries is updated and accurate.
- Maintain an emergency stock of medications and consumables in OT.
- Coordinate with OT technician, biomedical team, and housekeeping staff.
- Responsible for material management and cost control: documentation, indenting, receiving stock, storage, and usage. Ensure no wastage and misuse.
- Responsible for narcotic management: storage & documentation of usage.
- Be aware of NABH & Nursing excellence standards and ensure implementation.
Qualification Required:
- GNM / B. Sc (Nursing)
