Role Overview:
At American Express, you will be part of the SOX Governance and Advisory team within Controllership (1LOD) responsible for developing and executing a risk-based plan to assess and enhance the company's Internal Control over Financial Reporting (ICFR) with a focus on IT systems and applications. As the SOX IT Risk Advisory Manager, you will collaborate with various teams to identify key technology and data risks, lead SOX scoping and risk assessment, and provide guidance on control design and implementation. Your role will involve ensuring compliance with SOX controls and reporting technology-related risk matters to senior management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Business, Technology, Finance, SOX Governance and Testing, and internal and external audit teams on SOX technology controls.
- Lead SOX scoping and risk assessment of IT systems, applications, and key interfaces affecting financial reporting.
- Identify and mitigate key technology and data risks relevant to ICFR, consulting on control design and implementation with Process Owners.
- Act as a subject matter expert on technology-related SOX risks and controls, providing guidance to stakeholders and supporting training as needed.
- Deliver accurate and timely reporting to senior management on technology-related SOX risk and control matters.
Qualifications Required:
- 5+ years of experience in IT controls auditing and/or consulting within the financial services industry.
- Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer and Information Science, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
- Experience collaborating with multiple teams and projects, understanding business and IT processes, and assessing IT controls.
- Knowledge of IT and systems risk domain best practices, financial reporting risk, Sarbanes-Oxley Act requirements, and internal control frameworks.
- Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate risk and control concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
