Manager - Data Science

You will be responsible for leading and growing a team of data scientists and machine-learning engineers at Lightcast. Your role will involve designing, building, and productionizing analytics and ML solutions to drive business outcomes. As a hands-on technical leader, you will manage people, project delivery, and provide strategic direction by collaborating with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to scale reliable, explainable, and measurable data products. - Coach, mentor, develop, and lead a high-performing data science team. - Plan projects, prioritize work, allocate resources, and track milestones for timely delivery of data science projects and deliverables. - Provide technical guidance on model selection, architecture, feature engineering, evaluation, and productionization. - Ensure best practices for model monitoring, versioning, CI/CD, and MLOps. - Keep the team updated on industry trends and new methods, encouraging prototyping and experimentation. - Act as a technical mentor and subject-matter expert for complex modeling problems. Your skills should include expertise in: - Natural Language Processing (NLP) & Large Language Models (LLMs) - Machine Learning & Statistical Modeling - Programming & Data Manipulation (Python, SQL) - Information Retrieval & Semantic Search - Data Visualization & Communication - MLOps - AWS - Software Engineering Practices Your abilities should encompass: - Advanced proficiency in statistical analysis & machine learning - Expertise in NLP, Generative AI, and LLMs - Experience with model efficiency techniques for LLMs like quantization, distillation, pruning, etc. - Familiarity with GPU acceleration and distributed training methods - Proficiency in Python and SQL programming - Knowledge of cloud platforms and tools, e.g., AWS - Deployment and maintenance of models in production (MLOps) - Leadership and team management skills - Project and resource management capabilities - Strong problem-solving and performance-optimization focus Qualifications required: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field. Masters or PhD preferred. - 6+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or analytics, with at least 2 years in a people-management or team-lead role. - Demonstrated track record of shipping ML/data products to production and driving measurable business impact.
