Job Description
As a senior AI/ML Engineer at Optum, you will be responsible for designing, enhancing, and integrating Machine Learning and Generative AI solutions within Databricks. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Designing and implementing ML models
- Creating custom embeddings
- Building RAG pipelines
- Implementing vector databases
- Developing agentic workflows with LangChain
- Integrating AI into enterprise applications for Claims Payment Integrity (PI)
You will collaborate closely with Data Scientists, Product Teams, and Platform Teams to deploy AI-driven intelligence across PI use cases.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Contributing to experimentation with novel ML and Generative AI architectures
- Creating and maintaining embedding models
- Supporting RAG solutions, including semantic search and vector databases
- Designing and implementing AI powered enterprise applications
- Analyzing large datasets to identify trends and actionable insights
- Enhancing existing models and improving model accuracy and performance
- Optimizing AI pipelines for scalability, performance, reliability, and cost efficiency
- Integrating AI/ML solutions into enterprise systems
- Collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
- Contributing to skill development for engineers and interns in AI/LLM techniques
In terms of qualifications, you are required to have:
- Bachelor's/Master's in CS, Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics, or related field
- 8+ years of relevant experience in ML model development
- Hands-on expertise in Databricks, Spark, Python, Scala, SQL
- Experience with Azure cloud, CI/CD using Git, GitHub Actions/Jenkins, Terraform
- LLM & GenAI Skills including creating custom embedding models, building RAG pipelines, using LangChain for agentic workflows, and experience with OpenAI/Azure OpenAI APIs
- Ability to build ML models end to end and excellent communication and partnership skills
Preferred qualifications include experience with multimodal or transformer-based models, NLP or enterprise search, Agile/Scrum experience, and domain knowledge in healthcare or PI/FWA analytics.
